ROUTINE APPOINTMENTS

Need to be made 2 Weeks in advance, especially if you want to see a specific doctor. If one of the Doctors has asked you to come back to see him/her again, make sure that you make your appointment in advance.

There is wait of 2-3 weeks for routine appointments due to patient demand.

URGENT OR SAME DAY APPOINTMENTS WITH A DOCTOR

As we are now trying to optimise access to urgent appointments for all patients and to use the doctor’s time as efficiently as possible, all patients requesting a same day appointment will now be phoned back by the doctor on call.

In order to make this fair, this policy will also apply to patients who choose to come to the reception without phoning in advance. They will be phoned and spoken to by the doctor. If you choose to attend without phoning first, please give your number and details to the receptionist. Your name will be added to the list of other patients who have phoned and the doctor will work through this list to speak to you by telephone. We aim to have this call within 20minutes but it may take longer if there is a high volume of requests or if we are dealing with an emergency. You can wait in reception or leave but please ensure you keep your phone on and that there is good reception (this is not the case in several parts of Abbeycentre) as the doctor can only make one or at most 2 attempts to phone you.If it is decided that you need to see a doctor that day, please be aware that this appointment is likely to be later in the morning.

IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY

In any emergency case, eg Chest Pain or a Suspected Stroke you should ring 999 immediately.

TELEPHONE ADVICE

If you feel that you require telephone advice, please give the receptionist a contact number and some details of why you need to speak to the doctor.  All of this information is treated in the strictest confidence.  We would appreciate if you could remain by the telephone, the doctor cannot repeatedly try to contact you.  Reception staff cannot interupt doctors during surgery, if your request is urgent the doctor shall ring you back as soon as possible.

 HOME VISIT REQUEST

IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU CANNOT ATTEND THE SURGERY

You must telephone 028 90 360 520 before 10am

The reception staff shall take details and pass your request onto the On Call Doctor.

The doctor will phone back to discuss your condition and to decide if a visit is the best course

of action.

We would recommend that you try to attend the surgery, where we can best treat your condition.

The home visit number is available throughout the day in case of of emergency

 CANCELLING APPOINTMENTS

IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND OR NEED TO CANCEL YOUR APPOINTMENT

We would appreciate that you let us know if you cannot attend or no longer require your appointment.

On average approximately 350 x 10 minute appointments are not attended each month.

It is frustrating for patients and also oursleves as these appointments could be used by someone who really needs to be seen by a doctor or nurse.

If you need to cancel an appointment you can do so by completing this online form or telephone the appointment line.or if you are registered for on line services you have the option of cancelling your own appointment.
